History has painted John Wilkes Booth as a second rate actor who could never achieve the fame and fortune of his more famous family members. In truth, he achieved much in his short life on the stage, working at theatres across the country and earning the title of “Matinee Idol.” As the Civil War raged on, his political beliefs pulled him in a different direction.
